I understand bike riders sometimes get $60 tickets for not having a bell. And that it is especially risky not having a bell in Midtown.... lots of ticketing.
I avoid tickets by having a giant cowbell on my bike.
I noticed a new knick knack item in Chinatown being sold. It is near the costume jewelry and cartoon watches at outdoor stalls. Next to the colorful array of earrings I saw zipper pulls or back pack ornaments of Hello Kitty etc. about 1 inch high or less being sold. They come on a loop of colorful string.
Some are bells. Tiny. I was quoted $5 as the price but some vendors can be talked down in price. This is for the cyclist who doesn't want a ding bell on the handle bars - but doesn't want a ticket. |

| If you're ticketed for not having a bell, you should be able to get it dismissed by showing up in court with a receipt for a bell, or other evidence that your bike now has a bell on it. |
